This past Motzei Shabbos, March 5, Brooklyn Chaveirim celebrated its 20th annual Member appreciation Melave Malka, at the luxury Indigo Hotel in Williamsburg. Recognizing their members who selfishly devote themselves to helping the community for the past 20 years. Members were treated to a lavish dinner by Cube Events and a grand musical performance by the Shea Kaller orchestra, Shira choir and singing sensation Lipa Shmeltzer. The event was also honored by the presence of many elected officials including Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, State senator Simcha Felder, Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein, Councilman Kalmen Yager, and Senior advisor to Mayor Adams – Yoily Eisdorfer.

HaRav Elya Brudny, Rosh Yeshiva of the Mirrer Yeshiva visited YDE in Flatbush on Tuesday morning. Rav Brudny spoke to 5th grade students in honor of haschalas gemara. He then gave each boy a Mesechta Bava Metziah – their first gemara. Rabbi Brudny also visited the Mesivta and gave Divrei chizuk to Rabbi Meyer Yedid’s 10th grade class

A band of hooligans toppled a menorah placed on the sidewalk of the town square in Dnipro, Ukraine. Surveillance footage shows a group of 5 teenagers approaching the menorah at approximately 6 am Monday morning and knocking it over before fleeing. Police have opened an investigation into the matter and are considering charges under Ukraine’s criminal law statutes. In a separate incident, a menorah was vandalized in Kiev when a man climbed a fence behind a public menorah and began tearing it apart. The man was immediately apprehended and taken into police custody. In yet another case of antisemitism, a swastika was found graffitied in a public garden in the city of Lvov. The swastika was removed by an organization that promotes Jewish culture in the city.

Hagaon Rav Moshe Hillel, the Rosh Yeshiva of Slabodka, visited the Sephardic community in Flatbush this past weekend, providing chizuk and inspiration to the thousand-plus that turned out to greet him. Over the course of his visit, Rav Moshe visited numerous Mosdos and attended countless meetings in what was a tremendous showing of Kavod Hatorah. Escorted by askanim from the Syrian community famous for its extraordinary level of Tzedaka and Kavod Hatorah, the Rosh Hayeshiva spoke nearly 10 times on Friday and once Motzei Shabbos to a standing room-only crowd at a special Melava Malka reception.

Rav Yitzchak Kolodetzky, a tremendous talmid chochom, mechaber seforim, and the son-in-law of Rav Chaim Kanievsky, is currently on a visit to Los Angeles, where he has addressed and met with hundreds of bochurim in various yeshivos, providing support, insight, and chizuk to the young men. On Sunday morning, the bochurim of Mesivta Birkas Yitzchok, led by the esteemed Rav Sholom Tendler, had the opportunity to hear from Rav Kolodestzky, who delivered an impassioned speech urging the boys to strive ever higher in their ruchinyus and avodas hashem.
