As YWN has reported, Hagaon HaRav Dov Landau, Rosh Yeshiva of Slabodka, arrived on Sunday morning in NY on his first visit to the Unites States. The Rosh Yeshiva was taken off the plane by Rabbi Yanky Meyer from Misaskim who then drove him to Monsey. The Rosh Yeshiva is staying at the home of philanthropist Reb Shimon Glick in Monsey, and will be visiting Yeshivas in Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Lakewood and Far Rockaway this week. On Sunday the Rosh Yeshiva visited Yeshiva Heichal Hatorah, led by its Rosh Yeshiva, Hagaon HaRav Mottel Dick Shlita. The Rosh Yeshiva delivered a Shiur to the Bochrim on Mesacha Yevamos.

Police Commissioner Dermot Shea visited Yeshiva of Flatbush yesterday and announced the arrest of the individual responsible for pouring gasoline around the yeshiva and setting it on fire this past Thursday evening, October 14th.

Hagaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky seen just before Kol Nidrei – holding a small Sefer Torah. The Gadol Hador Davened in his home with a small Minyan. Minutes after making Havdalah on Motzei Yom Kippur, Hagaon HaRav Chaim helped with the Sukkah. He was still in his Kittel and Tallis when doing so. Photos also show Reb Chaim wearing a Shtreimel at the Seudah on Motzei Yom Kippur, as was the Minhag of his father, the Steipler ZATZAL.

As Yom Kippur approaches, rather than the lively hustle that one would expect on the days leading up to sukkos, a somber aura can be felt in the streets of Meah Shearim as people go about their final preparations in the time period leading up to the day of judgment. In the presence of HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky, thousands celebrated the Bar Mitzvah of the son of Rav Aryeh Kanievsky, a trusted member of the Gadol HaDor’s household, earlier this week. HaRav Chaim arrived at the simcha early and listened attentively to his great-grandson’s dvar Torah. The Bar Mitzvah was attended by Gedolei Torah, Roshei Yeshivos, Rabbanim, and other public figures as well as by a large crowd of relatives and friends. (YWN Israel Desk – Jerusalem)
