Israeli and US airstrikes on the Isfahan nuclear site in Iran destroyed equipment necessary to produce nuclear weapons, the New York Times reported. According to the report, the equipment would have been used to carry out the process of metallization that converts enriched uranium gas into metal, one of the last steps needed to produce the explosive core inside a nuclear bomb. The report quotes analysts who said that the destruction of the equipment means that Iran is not capable of producing a nuclear bomb in the near future. “It’s a bottleneck,” David Albright, a former UN nuclear inspector, told NYT. “They have to rebuild it.” (YWN’s Jerusalem desk is keeping you updated after tzeis ha’Shabbos in Israel)
