President Donald Trump is deeply “saddened and outraged” following the tragic killing of two Israeli Embassy employees, Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky, in Washington, DC, on Wednesday night, according to a statement made Thursday by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
Leavitt shared emotional details about the victims, saying, “Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim were a beautiful young couple. In fact, we’ve learned that Yaron was planning to propose to Sarah next week in Jerusalem.”
She relayed the heartbreak expressed by Yaron’s father, Daniel, who recalled how close the couple had been. “They were in love, the Embassy told us they were like a star couple at the Embassy. I never expected something like this, he had his whole life before him,” he said.
Leavitt reflected on the pain in Daniel’s words, remarking, “These words, especially every parent knows, are heartwrenching. The evil of antisemitism must be eradicated from our society.”
She further noted that she had spoken with the Attorney General earlier in the day and affirmed that “the Department of Justice will prosecute the perpetrator to the fullest extent of the law.”
She closed her remarks with a firm condemnation of hatred and a message of solidarity: “Hatred has no place in the United States of America under President Donald Trump. Everyone at the White House is praying for the victims’ friends and families during this unimaginable time.”
