Religious Zionist MK Simcha Rothman, the chairman of the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, sent a letter on Wednesday to Attorney-General Gali Baharav-Miara slamming her for withholding funding from Chareidi hesder yeshivos, Kikar H’Shabbat reported. In the letter, Rothman wrote that the purpose of the Chareidi hesder yeshivos is “to integrate Chareidi youth into meaningful military service alongside maintaining a Torah way of life, and was established in full cooperation with the Ministry of Defense.” “It is inconceivable that precisely the entities that work on a daily basis for the benefit of recruiting Chareidim to the IDF, in cooperation with the state and for the benefit of a clear national effort, receive a cold shoulder.” Rothman slammed Baharav-Miara for her usual tactic of deeming anything she doesn’t agree with as “illegal.” “The Attorney General chooses to place obstacles and prevent funding, based on arguments that do not hold water,” he wrote. “You are causing damage of hundreds of thousands of shekels to institutions, putting new branches at risk of closure, and directly harming the advancement of Chareidi service in the IDF, all while you outwardly talk about the importance of recruitment and compliance with court rulings on the matter.” (YWN Israel Desk – Jerusalem)
