Donald Trump has denounced what he calls a major deception involving Joe Biden’s mental condition and the use of an autopen during his time in office, describing it as one of the most significant scandals in U.S. political history. He asserted that only the 2020 election ranks higher in terms of political wrongdoing.
“With the exception of the RIGGED PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION OF 2020, THE AUTOPEN IS THE BIGGEST POLITICAL SCANDAL IN AMERICAN HISTORY!!!” Trump declared in a post on Truth Social early Wednesday morning.
According to Reuters, Ed Martin, who heads the Justice Department’s pardon office, informed employees on Monday that he had been instructed to look into pardons issued by Biden during the final stretch of his presidency. These include potential clemency granted to both death row inmates and members of his own family.
At the same time, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has launched its own probe to determine who was making key decisions in the White House when Biden was president.
“Who would put the document in there? Who gave that staffer the authority? Was it Joe Biden or was it another staffer? We don’t believe Joe Biden knew what was going on,” Committee Chair James Comer of Kentucky told Newsmax during an appearance on “Rob Schmitt Tonight.”
The autopen is a mechanical device that replicates a person’s signature, often used to expedite official paperwork. Trump and his allies contend that Biden’s reliance on this tool raises doubts about his involvement in key decisions, including whether he knowingly approved certain pardons. No definitive evidence has confirmed whether the autopen was used in any specific pardons issued by Biden.
In late May, Trump also leveled serious accusations at Biden’s White House staff, referring to them as “treasonous thugs” who, in his view, seized control of government operations as Biden’s cognitive abilities deteriorated.
He further accused them of betraying the nation by allowing what he described as unrestricted illegal immigration through the southern border.
“The Joe Biden that everybody knew would never allow drug dealers, gang members, and the mentally insane to come into our Country totally unchecked and unvetted. All anyone has to do is look up his record,” Trump wrote in a separate social media post.
“Something very severe should happen to these Treasonous Thugs that wanted to destroy our Country, but couldn’t, because I came along. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Biden, now 82, ended his campaign for reelection last year after intense public scrutiny following a widely criticized debate appearance. His age made him the oldest individual to hold the presidency in U.S. history.
