The remains of Mohammed Sinwar, a senior Hamas figure, were discovered inside a tunnel used for terrorist activity in Khan Yunis, according to a report released Sunday morning by Saudi-based media outlet Al-Hadath.
The same report stated that the bodies of ten individuals who had served as close aides to Sinwar were also located in the tunnel, along with the remains of Mohammed Shabana, the commander of Hamas’s Rafah Brigade.
Israeli forces had previously carried out an airstrike on a subterranean Hamas operations center in Khan Yunis last Tuesday. At the time, defense officials believed the mission had eliminated Sinwar, but until now, no confirmation had been received.
Following the airstrike, the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry released a statement indicating that 16 people had been killed and 70 others injured. However, the ministry did not disclose any names or provide further details regarding the identities of those killed.
Mohammed Sinwar rose to leadership of Hamas’s military apparatus in Gaza after his brother, Yahya Sinwar—the architect behind the October 7 massacre—was killed in an Israeli operation in October 2024. Known for his uncompromising stance, Mohammed Sinwar was seen as a key obstacle to negotiations aimed at securing the release of the 58 hostages still being held in Gaza by Hamas.
