Palestinian Authority head Mohammad Mustafa accused Israel of intentionally creating a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, placing direct blame on the Jewish state during a press conference held in Ramallah.
Referring to Israel as “the occupying power,” Mustafa alleged that it was responsible for a prolonged state of starvation in Gaza and deliberately preventing the flow of humanitarian assistance to civilians.
He demanded that the United Nations, and in particular its Secretary-General, act without delay by invoking Article 99 of Chapter 15 of the UN Charter. This clause allows the Secretary-General to alert the Security Council to any issue that could pose a threat to global peace and stability.
“Gaza has become a famine-stricken area,” Mustafa claimed, emphasizing the immediate need to ease restrictions and allow aid to enter without obstruction.
He also appealed to UN member nations to step up with both political backing and operational assistance to break the blockade, guarantee aid delivery, and push for legal action through international bodies to hold Israel liable.
Mustafa’s comments were delivered as conditions in Gaza continue to worsen, with Israel Defense Forces actively operating in the southern part of the region and diplomatic efforts underway to forge a ceasefire deal.
Notably, Mustafa failed to address the ongoing role of the Hamas terror organization, which maintains control over the distribution of aid in Gaza and has been documented stealing approximately half of all humanitarian supplies entering the region.
