An Israeli official cited by Kan 11 News on Friday stated that if an agreement to release the hostages is not finalized shortly, the Israel Defense Forces will proceed with its planned ground operation in Gaza.
The official emphasized, “Once we start, there will be no pauses.”
While talks continue in Doha, where negotiations have resumed under Qatari mediation, Kan 11 reported that intermediaries introduced a new proposal to try to gain Israeli approval. Nonetheless, Israel remains firm on sticking to the original framework crafted by Steve Witkoff. The Israeli delegation has been instructed by Jerusalem to remain completely uncompromising, with no permission to consider any alternative plans.
According to the report, the Palestinian delegation is also losing hope in the negotiations. Sources informed Kan 11 News that discussions in Doha have stalled and are not progressing.
The same sources indicated that Hamas is “beginning to question” the wisdom of releasing Edan Alexander but is “very satisfied” that it has now established a direct communication line with the United States government.
At the same time, Hamas issued a cautionary statement suggesting that it may take a firmer stance in future dialogue over hostage releases.
In its statement, Hamas said that Alexander’s recent release—timed just before President Donald Trump’s arrival in the area—was part of a “humanitarian initiative.” They claimed the release was tied to agreements with the U.S. and regional intermediaries that included certain expectations of reciprocal actions.
The group outlined that the gesture was contingent upon the rapid delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, the declaration of a lasting ceasefire, and the initiation of broad negotiations aimed at regional security and peace.
Hamas also made it clear that if these conditions, especially regarding humanitarian relief, are not fulfilled, the chances for further hostage deals would be significantly harmed.
On Wednesday, Channel 12 News revealed that U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff has drafted a revised framework meant to secure the hostages’ release and bring the conflict to an end—while excluding Hamas from any future rule.
Israeli officials cited in that report remarked, “Witkoff is personally invested in the efforts to secure the release of the hostages,” and noted, “President Trump made it clear that no moves will be forced on Israel against its will.”
