Hamas has signaled that it may take a tougher stance in upcoming discussions over a possible deal to swap hostages, hinting that any such arrangement might require the release of imprisoned terrorists in exchange for Israeli captives.
In a public declaration, the terror group described the recent handover of IDF soldier Edan Alexander—timed just before President Donald Trump’s regional visit—as part of what it referred to as a “humanitarian initiative.” Hamas asserted that this action was carried out based on an understanding with intermediary nations and the United States, with the expectation of receiving specific concessions in return.
The group stated that the soldier’s release came with clear conditions: the urgent entry of humanitarian supplies into Gaza, a push for a lasting ceasefire, and wide-ranging talks aimed at fostering regional security and long-term peace.
Hamas cautioned that if these terms—particularly the flow of humanitarian relief—are not honored, it would have a detrimental effect on future talks about potential hostage swaps.
