Florida Governor Ron DeSantis offered sharp remarks regarding President Donald Trump’s diplomatic outreach to Iran, calling the nuclear talks “hazardous” and expressing deep distrust of the Iranian regime’s objectives.
Speaking during an interview with conservative commentator Mark Levin, DeSantis reiterated his belief that Tehran must never be permitted to continue its uranium enrichment program. “They cannot be allowed to enrich uranium, period. End of story,” he asserted firmly.
DeSantis warned that the nature of Iran’s rulers makes the situation even more dangerous. “They are a militant Islamic government. Their view of mutual destruction with nuclear weapons is actually something they think would be fine because they think they’re all going to go to heaven in paradise if that happens,” he said, highlighting the ideological threat he believes they pose.
His remarks follow reports that President Trump has personally asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to hold off on any preemptive strikes against Iran, as Washington continues to pursue a diplomatic path.
Although Trump has voiced hope for crafting a renewed deal with Iran, DeSantis remains unconvinced, pointing to the potential for Iran’s leadership to see a nuclear clash with Israel as a divinely sanctioned mission.
