There was a slight positive development on Friday in the health status of the newborn baby who was delivered after a horrific shooting attack in Samaria earlier this week. The child, who remains under close observation in the neonatal intensive care unit at Schneider Medical Center, has been upgraded to a serious but stable condition.
The baby was delivered under emergency conditions after the mother, Tze’ela Gez, tragically sustained fatal injuries in the attack and passed away shortly thereafter.
In the aftermath of the attack, security forces have continued their sweeping efforts to apprehend the terrorist. The Israel Defense Forces and the Shin Bet have launched an intensive manhunt for the shooter, who carried out the ambush near a roadside area and then managed to escape.
As part of the ongoing search, IDF engineering teams have been working near Route 446, performing land assessments to assist in the investigation and to bolster security measures in the region.
Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu issued a strong statement in response to the attack: “I am deeply shocked by the dreadful attack in Samaria against a woman in advanced pregnancy and her husband, while they were on their way to the delivery room. This despicable event precisely reflects the difference between us – those who cherish and bring life – and the despicable terrorists whose purpose in life is to kill us and extinguish lives. I trust the security forces that in this case too, they will quickly reach the murderers and hold them accountable along with anyone who assisted them.”
