Search and recovery teams continued scouring the site of one of India’s worst aviation disasters for a third day after the Air India flight fell from the sky and killed at least 270 people in Gujarat state, officials said Saturday. The London-bound Boeing 787 struck a medical college hostel in a residential area of the northwestern city of Ahmedabad minutes after takeoff Thursday, killing 241 people on board and at least 29 on the ground. One passenger survived. Recovery teams working until late Friday found at least 25 more bodies in the debris, officials said. Dr. Dhaval Gameti at the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad told The Associated Press the facility had received 270 bodies, adding that the lone surviving passenger was still under observation for some of his wounds.

The Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot announced on Sunday morning that several buildings on the campus were damaged in the missile attack from Iran in the early morning hours. Baruch Hashem, no one was injured in the attack. “There were multiple direct hits on buildings within the campus,” the statement said. “Thankfully, there were no casualties. We are in contact with the relevant security and emergency authorities and are taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of our staff and campus.” The New York Times obtained images of the damage and reported that at least one of the institute’s laboratory buildings was hit and erupted into flames. In one of the most destructive attacks since the current war with Iran began, a direct Iranian missile strike on the city of Bat Yam overnight left six people dead, over 100 injured, and sparked concerns for dozens still unaccounted for.
Massive damage was reported across the area, with rescue and emergency teams continuing to search the rubble into Sunday morning.
Among the fatalities were a 60-year-old woman, an 80-year-old woman, a 55-year-old woman, an 18-year-old boy, a 10-year-old boy, and a young girl. The injured included four people in serious condition, seven in moderate condition, and 88 with light injuries.
Rescue workers are continuing their efforts at the scene.

A sharp rise in global oil prices following Israeli strikes on Iran will benefit Russia and bolster its military capabilities in the war in Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Friday in comments that were under embargo until Saturday afternoon. Speaking to journalists in Kyiv, Zelenskyy said the surge in oil prices threatens Ukraine’s position on the battlefield, especially because Western allies have not enforced effective price caps on Russian oil exports. “The strikes led to a sharp increase in the price of oil, which is negative for us,” Zelenskyy said.
