At the G-7 Summit held in Canada on Monday, President Donald Trump briefly touched upon the ongoing hostilities between Israel and Iran and urged Tehran to return to the negotiating table.
Responding to questions about reports that Iran was seeking to cool tensions, Trump acknowledged the overture, saying the Iranians would “like to talk.” But he was critical of their timing, adding, “They should have done that before. They had 60 days, and on the 61st day, I said, ‘We don’t have a deal.’”
He emphasized the urgency of diplomacy, stating, “They have to make a deal. It’s painful for both parties, but I’d say that Iran is not winning this war. They should talk, and they should talk immediately before it’s too late.”

Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu stated on Monday that taking out Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei would put an end to the hostilities between Israel and the Islamic Republic — a stance he said he maintains even though President Trump had previously advised him against such a move.
“It’s not going to escalate the conflict, it’s going to end the conflict,” Netanyahu said in an interview with ABC News’ Jonathan Karl, describing Khamenei as “like a modern Hitler.”

When pressed on whether Israel was planning to eliminate Khamenei, Netanyahu responded by saying the country was taking the necessary steps to defend itself, adding that both he and Trump were targets of an Iranian assassination attempt.

While Iranian state television aired a live broadcast on Monday, a sudden explosion shook the studio, sending the anchor scrambling for safety as debris and smoke filled the room. The live feed cut out abruptly after the blast.
The explosion was the result of an Israeli airstrike that targeted the headquarters of IRIB, Iran’s official state broadcasting service, marking a significant expansion in Israel’s military offensive within Iran.

Up until this point, Israeli military officials had stated that their operations were limited to strategic sites tied to Iran’s nuclear ambitions and missile capabilities.
