This coming Sunday will mark the end of Ronen Bar’s term as the Shin Bet chief. Since the confirmation of the next Shin Bet chief, Major General David Zini, is expected to take another several weeks, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu made a decision on Thursday to assign the responsibility to “S.,” who currently serves as the Shin Bet deputy chief. S. will fill the position temporarily for a month or until the completion of Zini’s appointment process—whichever comes first. Attorney-General Gali Baharav-Miara, who ruled that Netanyahu is “not allowed” to appoint the next Shin Bet chief due to what she claims is a “conflict of interest,” approved the appointment of S. for up to a month due to “exceptional circumstances that have arisen” and as not to harm state security.

A viral video of Jews wrapping tefillin with “overwhelmingly positive reception” is enough to get one suspended from a country club in Boca Raton, Fla.
That’s according to the Dhillon Law Group, which filed a lawsuit on behalf of an Orthodox Jewish family that said it was unfairly suspended from the Boca Grove Country Club for practicing its Jewish faith.

Two of the police officers who defended the U.S. Capitol from a mob of Trump supporters filed a lawsuit on Thursday seeking to compel Congress to follow one of its own laws and install a memorial to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack. The officers claim the failure to install the memorial plaque on the Capitol reflects an effort by President Donald Trump and his congressional allies to rewrite the history of the Jan. 6 riot. “Even those who recognized the violence of the day eventually partnered with the man who both inspired and minimized it,” the suit says. More than 100 law enforcement officers were injured in the attack. Hundreds of people were convicted of Capitol riot-related crimes, but Trump erased all of the cases in a sweeping act of clemency on his first day back in the White House.

A California senator was quickly rushed away from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem after allegedly “lunging” at her during a press conference addressing the Los Angeles anti-ICE riots. After loudly speaking over Noem and approaching the podium where she was standing, Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., was pushed out of the room by authorities as they ordered him to put his hands up. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said Padilla did not identify himself as a senator and was not wearing his Senate security pin.

As unrest flared in Los Angeles, New York City Mayor Eric Adams assured viewers during an interview with Newsmax that his police department stands ready to respond forcefully if necessary.

Construction and Housing Minister Yitzhak Goldknopf announced his resignation from the Israeli government on Wednesday, citing the ongoing stalemate surrounding the conscription law and the lack of legislative progress. Goldknopf’s resignation comes at the direction of the Gerrer Rebbe, who rejected the agreements reached by the other Chareidi MKs and MK Yuli Edelstein last night. Goldknopf submitted his resignation letter to the Prime Minister, stating that in light of the government’s failure to fulfill its commitment to pass the conscription law, he had no choice but to resign from his position.

The CIA has declassified and made public an additional 1,450 pages tied to the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, including 54 documents that were previously classified. The newly released materials explore various aspects of the case, focusing particularly on Sirhan Sirhan, the man convicted of carrying out the assassination, and include handwritten notes and psychological analyses. No evidence suggesting a broader conspiracy has emerged from the new material.
The documents offer deeper insight into Sirhan Sirhan’s mindset and motivations. The Palestinian-born Jordanian national was arrested for fatally shooting Kennedy on June 5, 1968, in Los Angeles. Among the records is a psychological evaluation and other personal materials written by Sirhan himself.

The police have transferred the case of the arson at the shul of HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Yosef to the prosecution for a decision on whether to bring the suspect to trial. According to an I24News report, the Shin Bet is no longer involved in the case after it became clear that there was no nationalistic motive and the involvement of Iran or any other element was ruled out. According to the findings of the investigation, the background is the suspect’s mental state. The suspect was arrested on Monday evening and was transferred on Tuesday for an interrogation by the Shin Bet. In footage from security cameras, the suspect is seen walking inside the shul at 4 a.m. and then setting fire to the chair. Crosses, hateful graffiti, and the inscription “Rubin!” were sprayed on nearby buildings.

The US Embassy in Jerusalem issued a security alert on Thursday to US government employees in Israel as fear grows over a possible Israeli attack on Iran, which could possibly result in an immediate Iranian counterattack. The alert states: “Due to the increased regional tensions, U.S. government employees and their family members are restricted from travel outside the greater Tel Aviv (including Herzliya, Netanya, and Even Yehuda), Jerusalem, and Be’er Sheva areas until further notice.” “Transit between these three areas, including to and from Ben Gurion Airport, is authorized.  Transiting Route 1 to and from Allenby Bridge is also permitted.” “The U.S. Embassy reminds U.S.

Heavy rains in San Antonio rapidly flooded roads, swept away submerged cars and sent some people scrambling up trees to escape fast-rising waters Thursday while firefighters made dozens of rescues across the nation’s seventh-largest city. At least four people died and two were still missing, authorities said. The deaths all occurred in the northeast part of the city, where authorities found over a dozen vehicles in the water. Photos and video showed smashed and overturned vehicles submerged in a creek. Some of the people rescued in that area said they were swept off an interstate access road by “sudden fast rising water,” San Antonio Fire Department spokesperson Joe Arrington said in an email. He said floodwaters swept vehicles into a creek and carried them downstream.

A former CIA employee who admitted to leaking sensitive intelligence regarding Israel’s potential military actions against Iran has been sentenced to just over three years behind bars, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Wednesday.
Asif William Rahman, who began working for the CIA in 2016, confessed earlier this year to unlawfully copying, printing, and sharing classified material on multiple occasions, including several incidents in 2024.
The leaks occurred during a period of heightened hostility between Israel and Iran, when both nations were engaged in a tense back-and-forth involving covert and overt strikes.
