A second major power outage hit southeastern France early Sunday, this time in the city of Nice, after an electrical facility was damaged by suspected arson. Police currently have not established a link between the blackout that affected parts of Nice as well as nearby cities of Cagnes-sur-Mer and Saint-Laurent-du-Var, and a power outage on Saturday that disrupted the city of Cannes during the closing day of its renowned film festival. The Nice blackout started around 2 a.m. and left some 45,000 households without electricity. The city’s trams stopped and power was briefly cut to the Nice Côte d’Azur airport during its overnight closure hours. Power was fully restored by 5:30 a.m., according to the energy provider company Enedis.

President Donald Trump said Sunday that the U.S. will delay implementation of a 50% tariff on goods from the European Union from June 1 until July 9 to buy time for negotiations with the bloc. That agreement came after a call Sunday with Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, who had told Trump that she “wants to get down to serious negotiations,” according to the U.S. president’s retelling. “I told anybody that would listen, they have to do that,” Trump told reporters on Sunday in Morristown, New Jersey, as he prepared to return to Washington.

US President Donald Trump claims American negotiators achieved “real progress” in “very good” nuclear discussions with Iran over the weekend. “I think we could have good news on the Iran front.” “I have a feeling I might be telling you something good. We’ve had some serious progress.” “Likewise with Hamas on Gaza,” he continues, suggesting potential positive developments in Israel-Hamas ceasefire talks. “We want to see if we can stop that, and Israel. We’ve been talking to them and we want to see if we can stop that whole situation,” Trump tells reporters before boarding Air Force One. (YWN World Headquarters – NYC)
