The United States said Tuesday it suspected that Syrian government forces have carried out a fresh chemical attack and has threatened reprisals, according to the State Department.
The State Department said it was assessing indications that the regime used chemical weapons on Sunday during its offensive in jihadist-dominated Idlib, the most significant remaining holdout of jihadist rebels in Syria.
“Unfortunately, we continue to see signs that the Assad regime may be renewing its use of chemical weapons, including an alleged chlorine attack in northwest Syria on the morning of May 19,” State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said in a statement.

That didn’t go over so well in Pyongyang, where North Korea’s state-run news agency responded this week by calling Biden “a fool of low IQ.”
“What he uttered is just sophism of an imbecile bereft of elementary quality as a human being, let alone a politician,” the news agency said, according to the AP.
The insult could have been worse.

President Trump on Wednesday ripped House Democrats for continuing investigations into his administration and shot back at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who claimed that he is “engaged in a cover-up.”
“I don’t do cover-ups,” Trump declared during a hastily arranged news conference in the Rose Garden. He called special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election a “hoax.”
“It was a total, horrible thing that happened to our country,” he said.
