Yechiel Indor, who shot and killed a Palestinian in self-defense after he and others were attacked by a violent Arab mob, was released from Shaare Tzedek Hospital on Sunday and taken into police custody. Indor was severely injured by the mob, suffering a cerebral hemorrhage and skull fractures, and underwent emergency neurosurgery. According to a letter sent to the court by his relatives, “the conditions of his release were given under pressure from the Shin Bet and the police.” Earlier reports said that the Shin Bet and the police had pressured the doctors to interrogate Indor while he was still in the hospital but the doctors refused to allow it.

An Israeli man who hurled an egg at a tefillin stand about three weeks ago rectified his actions by coming to the stand on Friday morning and apologizing. The man, a resident of Nes Tziona, rolled up his sleeve after he apologized and requested to put on tefillin. “He also told us that he’s being mekabeil to put on tefillin every day,” one of the Chabadnikim told the Hebrew-language COL website. Following the egg-throwing incident, which caused a public uproar, the man was detained and questioned by the police. (YWN Israel Desk – Jerusalem)

Opposition leader Yair Lapid has been expressing criticism about recent reports of a potential Isaeli-Saudi deal. According to reports, as part of a deal, Saudi Arabia is demanding, among other things, that the US support a Saudi civilian nuclear program. Lapid, who signed a controversial maritime deal with Lebanon without Knesset approval during his short stint as a caretaker prime minister, told Channel 12 News: “Israel cannot agree to uranium enrichment in Saudi Arabia because it endangers Israel’s security, and that is now on the table.” Lapid also met with a delegation of Democratic Congress members visiting Israel last week and told them that the agreement endangers Israel’s security and that of the region.

Former President Donald Trump vehemently defended his innocence on Saturday, asserting that he had “done nothing wrong” amidst mounting legal challenges. Addressing concerns about a potential plea deal in the election interference case pending against him in Georgia, Trump confidently rejected any notion of cooperation. These remarks came as District Attorney Fani Willis of Fulton County confirmed her plans to present the case to a grand jury in the upcoming week. This would mark the fourth indictment for the former president, following a recent indictment less than two weeks ago in Washington, D.C.

Attorney-General Gali Baharav-Miara on Thursday met with Environmental Protection Minister Idit Silman about the latter’s plan for a pilot program of separate swimming hours at some springs of the Nature and Parks Authority. The program was scheduled to begin in August at the Ein Haniya and Einat Tzukim nature reserves. The separate swimming hours were to be held only after the normal operating hours in order not to impinge on the general public. However, during the meeting, Baharav-Miara told Silman that she believes that the Nature and Parks Authority does not have the authority to allow separate swimming and that such a program would require legislation.
