Former Doña Ana County, New Mexico, Magistrate Judge Joel Cano and his wife, Nancy Cano, were taken into federal custody Thursday following an early-morning raid on their Las Cruces home. The couple now face serious charges of evidence tampering amid explosive allegations that they provided shelter to a suspected member of Venezuela’s notoriously violent Tren de Aragua gang. The arrest stems from a February encounter, when federal agents apprehended Cristhian Ortega-Lopez—an illegal alien and alleged gang affiliate—at the Canos’ residence. Ortega-Lopez, according to court documents, had been initially hired by Nancy Cano for home repairs but was later offered extended lodging in the family’s guesthouse. Federal investigators say the guesthouse became more than just a place to sleep.

Master Sgt. (res.) Asaf Cafri, H’yd,  a 26-year-old reservist from Beit Chashmonai, was killed by sniper fire in northern Gaza on Thursday. An officer from the Yahalom unit and a reserve combat soldier in the 79th Battalion were seriously injured in the same incident, and another combat soldier was moderately injured. The incident occurred when the soldiers, most of them reserve armored soldiers, were traveling in a tank in the IDF buffer zone in the northern Strip, near Beit Hanoun. At some point, the soldiers exited the tank to carry out an operational mission. Hamas terrorists lying in wait fired an anti-tank missile at them, which failed to hit them, and at the same time carried out sniper fire, killing Cafri, z’l, and wounding the three others.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had an internet connection that bypassed the Pentagon’s security protocols set up in his office to use the Signal messaging app on a personal computer, two people familiar with the line told The Associated Press. The existence of the unsecured internet connection is the latest revelation about Hegseth’s use of the unclassified app and raises the possibility that sensitive defense information could have been put at risk of potential hacking or surveillance. Known as a “dirty” internet line by the IT industry, it connects directly to the public internet where the user’s information and the websites accessed do not have the same security filters or protocols that the Pentagon’s secured connections maintain.

Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) is urging President Donald Trump to abandon ongoing nuclear negotiations with Iran and instead launch military strikes to destroy the country’s nuclear facilities. “You’re never going to be able to negotiate with that kind of regime that has been destabilizing the region for decades already, and now we have an incredible window, I believe, to do that, to strike and destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities,” Fetterman told the Washington Free Beacon in an interview on Wednesday. Fetterman’s remarks come as the Trump administration prepares for a third round of talks with Iranian officials, scheduled for this weekend, aimed at dismantling Iran’s nuclear program.

Tensions in the Trump administration erupted into a full-blown confrontation last week when Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent engaged in a fiery shouting match inside the White House — within earshot of President Trump himself. According to multiple sources close to the White House, the two top officials locked horns over the future of the IRS, with Musk reportedly raising his voice and gesturing aggressively as Bessent stood his ground. “Elon was shouting and rambling, and Scott just wasn’t putting up with it,” one insider told The Post, confirming that the standoff was intense enough to draw attention from nearby staff.

Hod Hasharon Mayor and Yesh Atid member Amir Kochavi spoke at a Yom HaShoah event and compared the IDF’s actions in Gaza to Naza atrocities. “We must not remain silent in the face of atrocities against people of other nationalities in the world – even if they are carried out in our name,” he said. “Jewish morality dictates – never again, not only to us, but to all nations as an ethical and moral commandment of a just and healthy society.” “There are 59 people in Gaza; their ‘never again’ is still going on.

Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa told a US congressman that he is interested in normalizing relations with Israel, Bloomberg New reported. Al-Sharaa conveyed the remarks to Republican Congressman Cory Mills, while setting conditions for the move, which were not detailed in the report. Mills and Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-IN)  traveled to Syria on Friday on an unofficial visit arranged by the US-based nonprofit Syrian-American Alliance for Peace and Prosperity, which is lobbying the US government to lift the sanctions imposed on the former Syrian regime. The two US lawmakers, the first to visit Syria since the fall of the Assad regime, held talks with Al-Sharaa about economic sanctions and peace between Syria and Israel.

Whether the threat was abusive Hamas guards, hunger, illness or Israeli strikes, there were moments during Tal Shoham’s 505 days of captivity in Gaza when he didn’t think he’d be alive the next morning. There were “many times that I separated from life and … tried to accept death,” the 40-year-old Israeli, who also holds Austrian citizenship, told The Associated Press. “There are so many ways to die there.” Shoham was one of dozens of hostages released from Gaza in February as part of a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel that has since been broken. His wife, two children and three other family members were also kidnapped on Oct. 7, 2023, and were freed a month later. Shoham said he spent half his captivity in apartments and the rest in underground tunnels.

Iran is expanding a vast security perimeter around two heavily fortified tunnel complexes near its main nuclear site, raising fresh alarms in Washington and Jerusalem amid renewed negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions. A new report from the Institute for Science and International Security, based on commercial satellite imagery taken March 29, suggests the underground sites beneath Mt. Kolang Gaz La may soon become operational. The facilities—under construction for several years—are situated near Natanz, the heart of Iran’s nuclear program. The analysis, led by institute president David Albright, highlights hardened tunnel entrances and a network of high wall panels encircling the mountain.
