Attorney-General Gali Barharav Miara on Monday called to implement personal sanctions against draft evaders, including financial sanctions and bans from leaving the country and holding a driver’s license, and announced that draft orders will soon be sent to tens of thousands of bnei yeshivos. Senior Shin Bet officials have reportedly threatened to resign if Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu proceeds with the appointment of IDF Maj. Gen. David Zini as the agency’s next director, according to a report by the Kan public broadcaster. In off-the-record conversations over the weekend, Shin Bet field coordinators responsible for the Jerusalem and West Bank sectors blasted Zini’s nomination as politically driven. The officials reportedly raised concerns over what they described as Zini’s “messianic” worldview — warning that his ideological leanings may erode the agency’s nonpartisan identity. No formal resignations have been filed as of yet, and the Shin Bet declined public comment on the matter.

Liri Albag, an Israeli survivor of Hamas captivity, was unexpectedly detained for questioning on Thursday upon landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, after U.S. passport control flagged her as still being held hostage, according to a report aired by Israel’s Channel 12. Albag, who arrived in New York with friends for a much-needed vacation, was stopped by border officials who suspected she may have been an impostor. The reason: official systems still listed her as being in captivity. According to her father, Eli Albag, who was also traveling abroad at the time, the ordeal began when his daughter’s phone was confiscated, and she was allowed a single call. “She called me, and then her mother, Shira, who immediately contacted the IDF and other authorities,” he told Channel 12.

The Foreign Ministry’s Director-General announced on Sunday that Ambassador to the US, Dr. Yechiel Leiter, will be summoned for a hearing regarding the criticism he voiced against the opposition in a media interview in the US. Director General Eden Bar Tal stated that the hearing will be held “in accordance with the instructions of the Senior Director of the Disciplinary Division in the Civil Service Commission.” Leiter attacked the Israeli left in an interview with the conservative US podcast PragerU. Responding to the left’s constant accusations that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s only goal in prolonging the war in Gaza is for “political reasons,” he said that the claim is a blood libel and defamation.
