Over the last number of years, Mobile Medic Incorporated, a private ambulance company that was founded by and until recently owned by Albee Bockman, President of Mobile Medic Incorporated, has slowly but surely taken over the EMS services for many of the townships in Sullivan County.

Thanks to Catskills Hatzalah, the victim of a lightning strike is now alive and on his way to recovery. Sources tell YWN that the man, a Hispanic employee of a fencing company, was working at the site of a future summer camp in Mountaindale and was struck by lightning as an intense thunderstorm ripped through the area, Tuesday afternoon. Catskills Hatzalah, as well as local EMS personnel, rushed to the scene and found the man in cardiac arrest. He was placed on a Mamakating EMS ambulance and rushed to Garnett – Orange Regional Medical Center with Hatzalah Paramedics administering advanced life-saving techniques. Thanks to their heroic efforts, the victim is now breathing on his own and expected to survive.

A yeshiva bochur in a Catskills camp was airlifted to Albany Medical Center on Tuesday after falling approximately 15 feet and striking his head. Catskills Hatzolah immediately rushed to the area after the accident, which occurred on Ulster Heights Road. Hatzolah and other emergency personnel extricated the victim from the area, and subsequently transported him to the hospital via Medevac with a head injury. Two individuals sustained serious injuries in a Thursday morning collision on Route 17 eastbound near Exit 106, according to NY State Police. Public information officer Trooper Steven Nevel confirmed that tqo elderly victims had exited their disabled vehicle when a vehicle belonging to the Shmira organization crashed into them from behind. One of the victims was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center, while the other was transported by ambulance to Garnet Health Medical Center in Wallkill. To thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, State Police summoned an accident reconstruction team to conduct a comprehensive investigation.

The New York State Police has announced that Troopers issued 20,952 total traffic tickets during the special “Speed Week” traffic enforcement campaign. “Speed Week,” which was conducted from Monday, June 12, 2023, to Sunday, June 18, 2023, targeted speeding and other unsafe driving behaviors, including distracted driving and violations of the Move Over Law. Troopers issued 10,478 tickets for speeding, 516 for distracted driving, 375 for Move Over law violations, and arrested 172 people for drunk and impaired driving. State Police also responded to 175 personal injury crashes, including two fatal crashes. During the June 2022 Speed Week detail, State Police issued 22,333 total tickets, including 11,566 for speeding.

The once grandiose Pines Hotel, formerly a prominent establishment in the Catskill Mountains’ renowned “Borsht Belt,” was consumed by a massive blaze and destroyed, early Sunday morning. The abandoned hotel, located on Laural Avenue in South Fallsburg, has been closed since 1998 due to financial struggles and structural damage. In recent years, the Pines Hotel, once a symbol of luxury and leisure, fell victim to financial hardships and structural deterioration, leading to its closure over two decades ago. Despite several attempts to revive the property, including proposals for residential development, ownership disputes and various challenges prevented any progress. There were previously arson fires at the property, with homeless and drug users living at the property.

DUANESBURG, N.Y. – A state trooper was shot and wounded during a traffic stop on an upstate New York highway Friday by a suspect who is believed to have later died by suicide, state police said. Trooper Richard Albert was released from the hospital later Friday after being shot in the upper arm as he approached an SUV he pulled over for speeding, authorities said. State police released a still photo from the trooper’s body-worn camera showing a passenger’s hand pointing a black handgun from the driver’s side window. The weapon had just been fired, with the spent shell casing still in the air. “It was unprovoked,” Deputy Superintendent Richard Allen said at a news conference.
